NINR Funding Opportunity Supporting Research Improving Health Outcomes in Rural Populations

Rural populations, which make up about 20% of the United States population, experience high rates of morbidity and disability, as well as increasing rates of premature death. Through this funding opportunity (RFA-NR-24-005), NINR is supporting the development of interventions making significant, sustainable improvements in health outcomes of rural populations.

This funding opportunity solicits research centered on intervention strategies addressing social determinants of health (SDOH) to improve health and promote health equity in rural populations. It encourages studies that harness a wide range of methods and approaches that address accessibility and feasibility of interventions in rural populations, including community-engaged research approaches that build on the strengths of rural communities. This application requires a Plan for Enhancing Diverse Perspectives (PEDP).
