NINR Scientific Review Officer Detail Opportunity, Division of Extramural Science Programs

The National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) is leading research to solve pressing health challenges and inform practice and policy – optimizing health and advancing health equity into the future. NINR’s Office of Scientific Review (OSR) is seeking a Scientific Review Officer (SRO) to serve on a reimbursable detail with an estimated start date of January 2, 2024. OSR provides policy direction and coordination for the planning and execution of initial scientific and technical reviews conducted within the NINR. The detail candidate will run an upcoming research education grant review (R25).

R25 grants support education projects aimed at promoting interest in biomedical research, provide additional training in specific areas, and/or to develop ways to disseminate scientific discovery into public health and community applications. NINR is committed to expanding education and training in biomedicine by enhancing the nation’s scientific and clinical workforce, helping to recruit talent from diverse and interdisciplinary backgrounds, and advancing innovative nursing research. The SRO will be leading reviews of education projects focused on NINR’s research lenses, especially in social determinants of health that can affect individual, family, and community health, and can contribute to health inequalities.

The qualified SRO candidate is expected to have the skill, knowledge, and expertise necessary to independently run NIH peer review meetings. This should include pre-meeting preparation, meeting conduct, and writing summary statements after the meeting. The detail opportunity will last 120 days and is open to current NIH employees at the GS 13 or 14 level.

To express interest or ask questions, please contact Dr. Weiqun Li at wli@mail.nih.gov.

Qualifications

NINR is specifically interested in candidates with scientific expertise or prior SRO experience in social determinants of health. Prior conduct of review meetings in research education grants (R25), training grants, or career development awards would be a plus.
