NINR uses this research center mechanism occasionally. This mechanism is only available when specifically announced in the NIH Guide through a Request for Applications (RFA). Investigator-initiated applications are not accepted for this mechanism.

NINR seeks to increase the numbers of research-intensive schools of nursing through the Nursing Research Developmental Center grants. These grants, aimed at agencies that are developing research programs, will augment the research resources by facilitating the growth of infrastructure to centralize resources and facilities in a specific area of inquiry that has a beginning base of research funding. Center investigators will have the opportunity to enhance their research productivity and to increase the intensity of the research environment.
