Program Project Grants (P01)
What is a Program Project Grant?
A Program Project (P01) Grant supports a broadly based, multidisciplinary, often long-term research program which has a specific theme. A Program Project involves the organized efforts of a relatively large group of researchers conducting research projects that explore various aspects or components of this theme. The grant can provide support for certain basic resources, including clinical components, to facilitate the total research effort. A Program Project is directed toward a range of problems having a central research focus, in contrast to the narrower thrust of the traditional research (R01) project.
NINR Program Projects for Nursing Science Research on Interventions in Chronic Illness
NINR invites applications to establish Program Projects for Nursing Science Research on Interventions in Chronic Illness (P01). The program project grant mechanism is designed to support research in which the funding of several interdependent projects as a group offers significant scientific advantages over support of these same projects as individual research grants.
These Program Project Grants are expected to generate new biobehavioral knowledge into chronic illness by supporting the development of:
-
interventions to improve the quality of life, promote health, and/or prevent disease in persons living with chronic illness,
-
interventions to improve the health and quality of life of informal caregivers of the chronically ill,
-
relevant research methodology and shared resources.
Applicants will be expected to demonstrate prior work in their chosen focus area and the ability to successfully execute a large research study.
This initiative addresses the needs of the chronically ill and their caregivers across the NINR research mission areas and strategies presented in the 2006 NINR Mission and Strategic Plan.
