NINR recently authored a journal article entitled “Self-Management: A Comprehensive Approach to Management of Chronic Conditions.” The article, published in the American Journal of Public Health, builds on the discussion from the 2013 National Nursing Research Roundtable, which focused on self-management, and reflects on research methods and practice applications of the science.

stack of journalsIn the article, NINR discussed the increase in the number of people living with chronic conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes, and arthritis. Although the conditions are unique, they share common challenges associated with their management, the article stated.

The article also reviewed examples of NINR-supported research that provided the platform for the development of intervention programs, such as the Arthritis Self-Management Program (ASMP), the Diabetes Self-Management Program, TEENCOPE, and the Community Aging in Place, Advancing Better Living for Elders (CAPABLE) intervention.

The abstract and article are available online at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24922170
