NINR Director Dr. Patricia A. Grady along with NINR Health Science Policy Analyst Dr. Lisa Gough have co-authored the article, “Nursing Science: Claiming the Future” for the Journal of Nursing Scholarship. The article is now available on the Journal’s website: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jnu.12170/abstract.

In the article, which coincides with the opening of NINR’s 30th anniversary year, the authors discuss recent NINR-supported research in the Institute’s key themes of symptom science, wellness, self-management, and end-of-life and palliative care.

Additionally, the article highlights future research priorities for the Institute to advance nursing science “to meet existing and yet-to-be-defined health challenges.” These priority areas include biological symptoms and symptom science, behavioral nursing science, data science, innovative methodologies, translation of effective and sustainable interventions, and investing in nurse scientist training.

The authors note that NINR will continue supporting research to face new challenges, and describes the goal for NINR’s next 30 years as identifying “proactive, innovative solutions to these challenges, which will allow NINR to continue to advance cutting-edge science to improve the health of the Nation.”
