NINR Is Seeking Program Officer / Health Scientist Administrator

Under new leadership and a new vision, the National Institute of Nursing Research is committed to funding nursing science that will solve the most pressing health problems and the most stubborn health inequities by collaboratively taking nursing science to new levels. 

To achieve these goals, NINR draws on a holistic perspective to push the scientific boundaries of multilevel integration, from the molecular to the macro. NINR recognizes the importance of prioritizing social determinants of health to achieve lasting and upstream change, and of focusing on translation in its science. NINR focuses on practice and policy-relevant questions in its funded research to ensure that scientific breakthroughs lead ultimately to practice and policy changes.

Program Officer/Health Scientist Administrators (multiple positions)

The role of the Program Officer / Health Scientist Administrator is to initiate, develop, manage, and provide insights for the extramural research portfolio of the NINR. The NINR is specifically interested in the following expertise:

• Social determinants of health
• Health inequities
• Community and population health 
• Observational and intervention research with practice and policy applications
• Embodiment of social inequalities
• Multilevel approaches bridging biology to society

Applicants should have a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in the health sciences or related field and research experience in one of these scientific areas. Familiarity with NIH extramural funding as an applicant, reviewer, or NIH scientific administrator is desirable, and outstanding written and oral communication skills are essential. Clinical Trial and Human Subjects Research Officer Specialist

The role of the Clinical Trials and Human Subjects Research Officer / Health Scientist Administrator is to develop a program for coordination and monitoring of NINR clinical trial and human subjects extramural research administration.  This includes: 

• Coordination of procedures for implementation of federal policies and guidance related to clinical trial research across NINR’s extramural scientific portfolios
• Training and support for NINR’s program directors and grants management staff in implementation of processes
• Creation of internal databases and electronic tracking systems for monitoring and evaluation of clinical trial progress 
• Developing an evaluation plan to ensure continual improvement in NINR’s clinical trial and human subjects research program
• Participating in trans-NIH committees and working groups, and network with clinical trials colleagues across NIN Institutes, to ensure best practices are disseminated and/or implemented across NIH
• Conducting portfolio analyses to identify gaps and opportunities to inform NINR’s scientific planning

Applicants should have a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in the health sciences or related field and experience in the management, conduct and/or oversight of clinical trial research. Familiarity with NIH extramural funding as an applicant, reviewer, or NIH scientific administrator is desirable, and outstanding written and oral communication skills are essential.
