Susan Old to Join NINR as Acting Deputy Director

On September 28 Dr. Susan E. Old will join NINR as Acting Deputy Director. Dr. Old is on loan to NINR – referred to at NIH as a detail – from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases where she currently serves as Deputy Director of the Division of Extramural Activities.

Dr. Old began her career at NIH over 30 years ago as a senior staff fellow at the National Eye Institute. After joining the extramural program at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, where she was responsible for establishing programs in genomics and proteomics, she became the Acting Deputy Director for the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases. Dr. Old was also the Senior Advisor to the Director for Translational Research at the National Center for Research Resources and the Senior Advisor and Acting Deputy Scientific Director of the NIH Center for Translational Therapeutics. She also previously served as Special Assistant to the Deputy Director of the Office of Extramural Activities at NIH. 

Dr. Old received her PhD in the Department of Human Genetics at the University of Michigan. She completed her post-doctoral training at Columbia University in Pediatric Neurology.
