Stoddard, Associate Professor of Nursing and Health Behavior & Health Education at the University of Michigan, and Dr. Paul Kuehnert, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Public Health Accreditation Board, will be presenting research priorities and the practice and policy implications of nursing research through the population and community health lens.

Sarah A. Stoddard, PhD, RN, CPNP-PC, FSAHM, FAANDr. Sarah A. Stoddard is an Associate Professor of Nursing and Health Behavior & Health Education at the University of Michigan. She is a nationally and internationally recognized nurse scientist with expertise in adolescent health and vast experience in research on the efficacy and effectiveness of multifaceted, community-level interventions aimed at prevention of violence and substance misuse.
Dr. Stoddard was appointed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to serve as a member of the Community Preventive Services Task Force (CPSTF), an independent, nonfederal panel of public health and prevention experts that provides recommendations and findings on programs, services, and other interventions to protect and improve population health.
Prior to joining the University of Michigan, Dr. Stoddard worked as a public health nurse focused on maternal-child health, a nurse practitioner in community- and school-based clinics, and as the State Adolescent Health Coordinator for the Minnesota Department of Health. Dr. Stoddard earned a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from the University of Minnesota and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan.
Paul Kuehnert, DNP, RN, FAANDr. Paul Kuehnert serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB), the national non-profit that sets standards and accredits local, state, Tribal, territorial, and U.S. Army governmental public health departments. In this role he leads the strategic direction of PHAB as it strives to advance and transform public health practice through performance improvement, strong infrastructure, and innovation.
Prior to joining PHAB in January 2020, Dr. Kuehnert was Associate Vice President for Program for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) in Princeton, NJ. Before joining RWJF in 2012, he spent five years as the County Health Officer and Executive Director for Health for Kane County, Illinois, a metro-Chicago County of 515,000 people. In that role, Paul provided executive leadership and oversight to four county departments: Health, Emergency Management, Community Reinvestment and Animal Control. Earlier, he served as Deputy State Health Officer and Deputy Director of the state of Maine’s Health Department; Associate Director of the AIDS Foundation of Chicago; and President and CEO of Community Response, Inc, a community-based AIDS service organization in Chicago.
Dr. Kuehnert was recognized as Distinguished Alumnus of the University of Illinois-Chicago, College of Nursing in 2018. He is a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing (2015). He holds the Doctor of Nursing Practice and the Master of Science degrees, both from University of Illinois-Chicago, as well as the Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Webster University in St. Louis.
The NINR Director's Lecture Series brings together top experts from across the nation to share their insights for advancing nursing science with a transdisciplinary audience at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the broader biomedical research community. For the 2022-2023 NINR Director's Lecture Series, each lecture will focus on a different NINR strategic plan research lens.
