Funding Opportunities: NIH IMPROVE Initiative - Intimate Partner Violence Research

The NIH Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR) and participating NIH Institutes, Centers, and Offices are excited to announce two NIH Implementing a Maternal health and PRegnancy Outcomes Vision for Everyone (IMPROVE) Initiative funding opportunities that focus on intimate partner violence (IPV) research.

IPV is a leading cause of maternal mortality and other non-fatal health outcomes. Despite the recognition of the significant impacts of IPV, a more nuanced understanding of the scope of the problem as well as risk and protective factors is hampered by incomplete data collection efforts, particularly in underrepresented populations. Through these funding opportunities, NIH aims to educate researchers who are focused on understanding and preventing maternal morbidity and mortality about best practices related to measurement and screening and appropriate referrals/care for IPV.

Career Enhancement Award to Advance the Study of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) in the Context of Maternal Morbidity and Mortality Research (K18 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)

  • The goal of this K18 initiative is to enhance research workforce capacity by supporting a career development program that will help experienced investigators already focused on the reduction of preventable causes of death and morbidity among pregnant and postpartum individuals to gain expertise in the research methods, approaches and intervention efforts in the area of intimate partner (and related) violence. R25 for Short Courses on Techniques for Measuring Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) in Different Populations (R25 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)

  • This R25 will support courses for skills development in the measurement of intimate partner violence (IPV) in populations of pregnant and postpartum people, consistent with the goals of the IMPROVE initiative. Learn more about this funding opportunity.
