MEET THE NINR DIRECTOR
Dr. Patricia A. Grady has served as NINR Director since 1995. An internationally recognized researcher, Dr. Grady's scientific focus has been primarily in stroke, with emphasis on arterial stenosis and cerebral ischemia.
Dr. Grady joined NIH in 1988 as an extramural research program administrator in the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) in the areas of stroke and brain imaging. From 1993 to 1995, Dr. Grady served as NINDS Deputy Director and Acting Director. Before beginning her service at NIH, Dr. Grady held several academic positions and served concurrently on the faculties of the University of Maryland School of Nursing and School of Medicine.
NURSING SCIENCE IN ACTION
Dr. Marcia Holstad of the Emory University School of Nursing works to improve wellness in diverse populations living with HIV. Dr. Holstad developed the Keeping Healthy and Active with Risk Reduction and Medication Adherence (KHARMA) project, which demonstrated the value of group motivational interviewing for HIV+ women.
