This National Nurses Week, we at the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) recognize the impact of nursing research in improving health and strengthening care across real-world settings.
This year’s theme, The Power of Nurses, reflects the essential role nurses play in our healthcare system from advancing science to inform care delivery, to improving outcomes across communities. Every day, nurses are trusted leaders at the forefront of patient care whose impact extends far beyond the bedside.
Nursing science is uniquely positioned to generate actionable, implementation-ready knowledge by integrating clinical insight with an understanding of the environments in which people live and receive care. Nursing practice is powered by innovative and impactful research on evidence-based solutions that advance health for all. By fostering a culture of inquiry and supporting the next generation of nurse scientists, we ensure a sustained foundation of rigorous science that continues to strengthen nursing practice.
NINR is committed to advancing solutions-oriented nursing research that addresses the conditions that shape health and delivers evidence that can be implemented in practice and scaled for impact. As such, I hope you will join us as we celebrate The Power of Nurses by hosting the first webinar in our early-stage investigator lecture series, featuring emerging scientists from across the nation who are advancing nursing science. On May 7th, 2-3pm EST, Dr. Jane Muir from University of Pennsylvania’s School of Nursing will share insights from her research focused on nursing models of care in community-based settings.
I extend my sincere gratitude to the entire nursing community. Thank you to nurse scientists, clinicians, trainees, educators, and partners whose dedication continues to move the science of nursing forward and translate research into better care, stronger systems, and improved health outcomes for all.
Sincerely,
Courtney F. Aklin, PhD
Acting Director, National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR)
