John P. Grason, PhD

Director, Division of Science Policy and Public Liaison (DSPPL)

John P. Grason, PhD is the Director of NINR’s Division of Science Policy and Public Liaison. Dr. Grason has spent his entire NIH career at NINR, having joined the Institute as a science policy analyst in 2005.  Since coming to NINR, Dr. Grason has helped develop multiple NINR strategic plans, led NINR-wide working groups and committees, served as NINR’s legislative contact, and participated in numerous NIH-wide strategic planning and performance management efforts. Dr. Grason served as NINR’s acting deputy director from February 2022 – February 2023.

Dr. Grason is a graduate of the Department of Health and Human Service’s (HHS) Emerging Leaders Program, during which he spent time at NIH, HHS, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. He is the recipient of multiple NIH Director’s awards, and the NINR Director’s Leadership and Excellence awards. 

Dr. Grason received his undergraduate degree from Lehigh University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park before joining HHS in 2004. He is originally from the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania.
