Dr. Leigh A. Willis is a behavioral scientist with interests in technology, digital media, HIV/STD, mental health, violence prevention, health disparities, intervention development, and health communication and evaluation.  

Prior to joining NINR, Dr. Willis worked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the Division of Violence Prevention, Division of HIV/AIDS and the Health Communication Science Office at the National Center for HIV, Virial Hepatitis, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and TB Prevention. He was also a tenure-track faculty member at The University of Georgia (UGA), where he was jointly appointed in the Department of Sociology and The Institute for African-American Studies. Here, he taught courses in Medial Sociology and Race and Ethnicity.

Dr. Willis earned a PhD and MA in Medical Sociology, an MPH in Health Behavior from the University of Alabama, Birmingham, and a BA with Department Honors in Sociology and Human Services from Albion College. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in HIV/AIDS prevention and a predoctoral fellowship at CDC.
